In the early 1900′s Bill Ermer’s grandfather, Bill Palmer, owned and operated a country store in North Salem, which was a popular place in the community. It was the type of store that carried almost everything a person could need. In fact, there was even a post office situated within for the area residents.
In 1932 Bill’s father, Charles A. Ermer, started the oil business. He also had a rural mail route, worked for the police department and volunteered as a fireman for the Town of Salem. He wore many hats as does his son, Bill. Bill says, “the hat I like best is providing help to the customer’s needs.”
In 1949 Bill Palmer added a new dimension to the store, selling bottled gas to residents and summer tourists. That was the beginning of Palmer Gas! “Every customer is special to us,” says Bill Ermer. Following the commitment to customer service, Palmer Gas has grown from a one-man operation with a single pickup truck to a strong family business with 70 employees and 50 vehicles.
In order to keep his commitment to outstanding customer service, Bill Ermer provides training to his employees on a continual basis. Each employee is certified in the Certified Employee Training Program, which is presented by the National Propane Gas Association. Our service technicians attend many seminars each year to stay on top of the increasing number of different products in the marketplace today. Our delivery staff is continually trained and rewarded for safe driving practices and procedures.
